Professional Summary

My budo career goes back to practicing Judo during primary school. In 2000 I started practicing Shinkendo, a modern amalgam of traditional sword schools created by former Yoshinkan uchi deshi and master swordsman Toshishiro Obata Kaiso. Shinkendo initiated my fascination for Japanese Budo traditions. I became a founding member of the local Shinkendo Dojo and one of the youngest Shinkendoka worldwide to hold a Hyaku-e (blackbelt) and Instructor license.

In 2005 I located to Munich for university studies and entered the Aikido Yoshinkan Dojo of Hiromichi Nagano Shihan. Offering training seven days a week I spend most of my free time at the Dojo with a personal maximum of 11 training sessions within one week. I studied for 6 years at Nagano Senseis Dojo serving for 2.5 years as his assistant for regular classes, but also for many events such as national and international courses, television appearances and cultural events. During the years I attended many international courses with Aikido masters such as Inoue Kancho, Chida Shihan, Takeno Shihan, Ando Shihan, Joe Thambu Shihan and Obata Kaiso. In 2010 I went to Japan and trained at the Dojos of Ando Shihan, Chida Shihan, Inoue Kancho and for three weeks at the newly founded Sengenkan Hombu Dojo under Saburo Takashima Kancho.

In 2011 we carefully started practicing Aikido at my hometown knowing that I will leave for another year for career development. In 2013 I opened the Aikido section of the former Shinkendo Dojo. The name “Kojikan” was given by Nagano Sensei. “Koji” is the Chinese reading of the kanji “Hiromichi” meaning the broad way. A broad way that welcomes everybody to follow. After Nagano Senseis death in 2017 I decided to join Saburo Takashima Senseis Sengenkan and the local club was renamed to “Budo Straubing” with Aikido Kojikan as the Aikido section.
